n 1946, two brothers and WWII veterans, Bruce and Paul Pellett started a propane business in Atlantic, Iowa. Pelgas became the branded name of the Modern Fuel. In the early years 100# cylinders were delivered to fuel cooking and heating appliances in rural homes. As demand grew for the versatile fuel larger storage tanks were added to keep furnaces running, as well as water heaters, cook stoves, clothes dryers and, now even, fireplaces and generators.
